2018 year end review in books

Hand drawn lettering greeting card with calligraphy for 2018 Happy New Year

In January 2018 I wrote in my journal of reading goals and book I wanted to get to and I’m going to restate what my goals I wanted to hit then and tell you how well I did on those goals.

I want to read more of the books that I’ve been wanting to read. I also want to try reading more classics in 2018, I wanted to in 2017 but I didn’t. I want to get more into comics and graphic novels maybe manga too. I want to try not to buy as many books. I would like to try to save some money. I would like to read or get into Stephen King novels. I also would like to read some adult fantasy books. For the goodreads challenge which I’ve been doing for a couple of years now I would like to read a 100 books.

Some more goals and books I’d like to read:

  • Read more classics
  • The Hobbit
  • The Lord of the Rings series
  • Finish the last three Harry Potter books
  • Truthwitch
  • Mistborn trilogy
  • Six of Crows
  • Crooked Kingdom
  • Throne of Glass series

I did read some of the books I had wanted to get to.  I read a little more classics but not like I’ve been wanting to but I will continue to read more classics as time passes. I didn’t get into comics but I did read some graphic novels and read some manga too.  I actually finished a manga series I got out from the library. I went to the library more in the second half of the year which I’m glad I did. I didn’t buy as many book this year like I have in previous years but that’s probably because the second half of the year I haven’t had a job. I did go back to college and been trying to find a new job but trying to focus on school at the same time. I would like to get a job in 2019 though. I did read some Stephen King I believe I read 3-4 books and started reading It but I haven’t finished it and plan on continuing to read It and other Stephen King in 2019.  I didn’t read any adult fantasy books but I’m hoping to in 2019 I think I’m going to start with Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. For my goodreads reading challenge I wanted to read 100 books but by the time I’m writing this I’ve read 221 books.

books to read and goals:

  • read more classics: I did read more classics
  • The Hobbit: I did end up reading The Hobbit this year
  • The Lord of the Rings: I didn’t read any of them
  • Finish the last three Harry Potter books: I did read the last three and really enjoyed them
  • Truthwitch: I didn’t read it but maybe in 2019 I will
  • Mistborn trilogy: I didn’t read them but planning to in 2019
  • Six of Crows
  • Crooked Kingdom

I read both Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom but there was too much hype so I didn’t enjoy as much as I thought I would

  • Throne of Glass series: I only read the first book, Throne of Glass

I’m hoping in 2019 I will read more books on the list of books I want to read and I want to continue to use my library as well.
