This Deciet of Ours by Shannon L. Lir Book Review

Deceive the Daemon King.
Trust no one.
Don’t fall in love.

Sersa Scáth has been trying to bite her sharp tongue ever since she stole her clan’s magic. It was an accident—her tempestuous moods to blame—but it doesn’t stop them from calling her the Mad Heir. Her only escape from the whispers is the City of Soulless, with its rundown pubs, swanky betting halls, and places of pleasure aplenty.

But no mortal is safe in the city that straddles the lands of the living and the dead. Especially at Reaping Hour when the spirits of the restless dead hunt for souls…

A Gilder noble by birth and son of the Daemon King, Nessin Drumghoul controls a sea of secrets that could destroy any one of the noble houses. He even has the perfect secret to persuade Sersa into posing as his betrothed: the truth about her missing father. But why Nessin wants her help remains a mystery no matter how much Sersa pries.

Though Sersa senses a malicious motive driving Nessin, their attraction to one another is undeniable. Irrepressible. Dangerous. Neither can afford to lose sight of what’s on the line if their fake betrothal is discovered. And as the line between deception and reality blurs, their ruse begins to fall apart, threatening to destroy them both.

I really like that there is a content warning page. The content warning that there are for this book are, strong language, mature content, mental illness, pregnancy, menstruation, misogyny, violence, human trafficking, hunting and death.

I really like the the authors writing. This book is so interesting and has kept me reading.

I gave this a four out of five stars. I really enjoyed this book. I really loved it. I like the dynamic of Sersa and Nessin for most of the book.
This included enemies to lovers, fake relationship, slow burn, and touch her and die tropes.

I loved Sera’s character and I loved how she was strong. I liked how she realized that she needed to just be herself. When she got betrayed, I felt the betrayal she felt.

Nessin walks the line of if you can trust him or not.. He’s dark and mysterious.

This book gripped me from page one and I will absolutely be reading book two as son as its available! As soon as I am able to I will be buying this book!

I had issues with the ending but it’s because I wanted it to end a little bit different. I can’t wait for book two to find out what happens next.

Thank you Shannon for letting me review book one!

Book Review: Small Town Hearts

Rule #1 – Never fall for a summer boy.

Fresh out of high school, Babe Vogel should be thrilled to have the whole summer at her fingertips. She loves living in her lighthouse home in the sleepy Maine beach town of Oar’s Rest and being a barista at the Busy Bean, but she’s totally freaking out about how her life will change when her two best friends go to college in the fall. And when a reckless kiss causes all three of them to break up, she may lose them a lot sooner. On top of that, her ex-girlfriend is back in town, bringing with her a slew of memories, both good and bad.

And then there’s Levi Keller, the cute artist who’s spending all his free time at the coffee shop where she works. Levi’s from out of town, and even though Babe knows better than to fall for a tourist who will leave when summer ends, she can’t stop herself from wanting to know him. Can Babe keep her distance, or will she break the one rule she’s always had – to never fall for a summer boy?

The first three times reading this book I didn’t continue reading it. This time I around I finished it in less then 48 hours. I gave this a four out of five stars. I really enjoyed it. In the beginning I really didn’t like Penny and Chad, and I didn’t like them for most of the book. I’m not even sure I liked them in the end. I hope they work on being a good friend towards Babe. I felt like Lucy was being a better friend to Babe. I really like the chemistry and connection between Babe and Levi. I liked their story. I loved the atmosphere and vibe of the small sea side town in Maine. It made me want to live somewhere like that. It seemed like the perfect place.

m so thankful that I got to read and excerpt of the first five chapters! I really like the characters and I’m feeling so many things! I can’t wait to get and read the rest of this, it’s already so good! I need the rest now! The book is coming in only a couple more weeks and I can’t wait. I keep thinking about what’s going to happen next.

Meet Pepper, swim team captain, chronic overachiever, and all-around perfectionist. Her family may be falling apart, but their massive fast-food chain is booming ― mainly thanks to Pepper, who is barely managing to juggle real life while secretly running Big League Burger’s massive Twitter account.

Enter Jack, class clown and constant thorn in Pepper’s side. When he isn’t trying to duck out of his obscenely popular twin’s shadow, he’s busy working in his family’s deli. His relationship with the business that holds his future might be love/hate, but when Big League Burger steals his grandma’s iconic grilled cheese recipe, he’ll do whatever it takes to take them down, one tweet at a time.

All’s fair in love and cheese ― that is, until Pepper and Jack’s spat turns into a viral Twitter war. Little do they know, while they’re publicly duking it out with snarky memes and retweet battles, they’re also falling for each other in real life ― on an anonymous chat app Jack built.

As their relationship deepens and their online shenanigans escalate ― people on the internet are shipping them?? ― their battle gets more and more personal, until even these two rivals can’t ignore they were destined for the most unexpected, awkward, all-the-feels romance that neither of them expected.

This was such a cute book. I loved the two main characters Pepper and Jack. Pepper was so sassy and I absolutely loved that, I love reading about characters that are sassy. I enjoyed Jack’s grandma, she reminded me of my own which I liked. Before I picked up this book I kind of lost interest but since I started reading it completely kept my attention. I really enjoyed it and before I even finished reading, I had preordered the book for myself.

The Weight of the Stars is the third book I have read by K. Ancrom. I really enjoyed The Wicker King and The Legend of the Golden Raven which I read both of them in January. When I found out this book was coming out I had to request it from Netgalley, I’m glad they accepted it. When I found out it WLW I wanted to read it even more.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved most of the characters and the relationships. I loved the parts with the recordings they listened to or spoke. I hope there is a next book or novella. I really want to read more about and from these characters. I liked the friend group and  I also liked how the characters were with their families. I read they book so fast, it only took me a little over 24 hours. I’m hoping to be able to get a finished copy soon.

|Tin Heart by Shivaun Plozza

Author: Shivaun Plozza

Release Date: 12 March 2019

Genre: Contemporary

Marlowe Jensen is a seventeen year old girl with congenital heart condition is a recipient to a heart transplant by a sixteen year old boy. Since she had the transplant she’s been trying to get a hold of the family but the family doesn’t want contact and ask her not to send anymore letters. She wants to know who the boy was and this is her story of her determination to find out who her heart belong to and who he was as a person. She also trying to figure who she is now.

I won an arc of this from a giveaway on Instagram. I read this book in about a week or so, I took my time reading it. Tin Heart was published in Australia first, which is where the author is from and where the book takes place. I gave this a four out of five stars.

I liked that Marlowe mentions both Will Smith and the Tardis from Doctor Who and other movies and books. I however didn’t like that she told two characters fake names and didn’t tell them who she really was. One of the characters figures out her name but the one it affects more doesn’t. Which probably made that character feel used and betrayed.

When Marlowe goes back to school she makes a friend Zan and we find out she’s gay and there’s also another character that’s at least interested in girls and her name is Kari. The book doesn’t go into detail about that plot point.

I didn’t like that Marlowe thinks that her brother makes himself a target for how he dresses and because the he is. I don’t like how she treats or talks to her brother. She puts everything before her brother and is mean to him. I didn’t like how she treated her mom either when her mom was just trying to protect her and do what she thinks is right for Marlowe. I hope she truly learns her lesson and doesn’t treat her brother or mother like that no longer.

I liked it when Marlowe called Leo butcher boy. She flirted with in ways that were settle but could tell that she was flirting with him. She always acted like she didn’t like him till the last 100 pages or so.

It wasn’t cool of DeeDee to tell Alicia that Suzzette was hooking up with her roommate.  I’m glad she apologized and she saw what she did was wrong.

I totally get where Suzzette is coming when she’s confused about her sexuality and she’s scared of it too.  That’s about the same with me, I’ve been trying to figure out my sexuality for quite a while and it can be scary at times.

I can’t believe Grace just said ‘No fair, black people aren’t supposed to be able to swim.’ and ‘I just mean… you know Black People don’t like, swim.’  I can’t believe she said that,  well I can because people say things like this every day.  It’s so disrespectful and wrong to say thing like that.

How would we like it if people said like that to us all the time we wouldn’t like it and feel hurt.  I’m glad Emil stood up and stated why people used to think that and still do.  Pretty much teach her about the past even though it’s common knowledge and you learn it in school.  I’m glad Emil did that because Suzzette wasn’t able to because she was so angry.  Suzzette and Emil being the only black people shouldn’t have been the only ones to stand up and say something.  DeeDee should at least have said something, I mean she’s Suzzettes best friend.

Page 116: ‘What made it really awkward was that nobody said anything besides me and Emil.’ – Suzzette

I really enjoyed with book: I thought it was amazing, it made me cry within the last fifty pages a couple of times, this was obliviously a five star read.

Of Ice and Snow by: Amber Argyle Review

Book: Of Ice and Snow

Author: Amber Argyle

Genre: young adult, fantasy

Series: Fairy Queens

Publisher: Starling publishing

Book formate:  ebook

I received this Arc as a box set in ebook form from the author in exchange of a honest review. All thoughts and opinions are all my own.

This was my first ever Amber Argyle book that I have read but I have other I’m going to be reading as well. I was drawn in by this book first because it’s about fairies. I have been wanting to read and get into books about fairies.  This is the prequel to Winter Queen the first book in the Fairy a Queens series.

This book is about how two characters Otec and Matka are drawn in towards each other throughout their own experiences. Otec wasn’t supposed to be Clam Chief he had older siblings that would be way before he would have. Things happened where he becomes Chief of the Clans.

I liked seeing him grow from the unimportant son to the most important one. Also changing from a unsure leader to a confident chief leader of the clans. I really liked his how Matka comes Otecs light in his dark times and thoughts.

There were a few lines from the book that I really enjoyed in this book and they are:

“Revenge does nothing to ease the pain, only twists you into something you come to hate”

“He turned his face into the bitter wind coming off the ocean, his heart a coffin of ice and snow”.

I have this a four out five stars on Goodreads and also have this review up on there as well. It was slow read for me, it took me about two weeks to get through this.
